Alternative Dance & Creativity Summer Camp 2020

Planned crafts and physical activities
with supplies for a week
+ in-person (outdoor & distanced)
or online dance lessons

We know this summer will be unlike any other.

Our goal is to keep your kids moving and working creatively, while making things easier for you.

We have re-designed our traditional summer dance & creativity camp to alternatively take place from the safety of your home, OR — if you are comfortable — with 45-minute daily lessons outdoors, distanced.

You can take the camp in-person or live-online the weeks designated below. Or, you can also take the camp over pre-recorded video any time after they occur in real-time!

Daily dance lessons

In-person, on-zoom (live!), or after-the-fact! Live lessons take place 11:00am-11:45am.

Two daily crafts

Planned crafts and supplies! Each craft is themed by the week (August 3-7 Groovy Galaxy or August 10-14 Tutti Fruitti).

One daily off-screen activity

Each day will have a planned activity that will get your children up, moving, and away from screens!

Final Friday showing

Whether you are joining us from home or at our outdoor space, we will have a final performance or video-taping! We will collect all videos and put together a video.

Conveniently located in Hartwell, near Kroger, Country Fresh Market, Wyoming small business district, and other places to do some errands!

Frequently Asked Questions

MamLuft&Co. Dance’s Summer Dance Camp for Kids in Cincinnati is about the creative, empowering, expressive, and active practice of dance!

The camp is unique because, according to our research, it is the only camp in Cincinnati that offers Modern Dance. We normally provide a day camp running from 9am-2pm, but this year, due to COVID-19, we are planning and providing activities for your child, plus offering an optional in-person, online-live, or prerecorded dance class.

We also DE-emphasize pink and princesses so that boys feel welcome and absolutely comfortable.

Usually, our camp is for ages 5-10 and accepts children that have been in school 5-days-a-week for at least a year.

This year, we are aiming our crafts for ages 5 to 10; however, if parents feel that their child would do well with activities for that age range (whether with or without parental help, as preferred by parents), they are invited to sign-up children outside that target age.

Historically, Modern Dance developed in the early 1900s and became a recognizable form by the 1950s, when it got its name from the Modern Era. It is different from Ballet because of its use of inversions, “free-er” use of the body (less restrictions), and a strong relationship with the ground. It has strong influences from many different forms of ethnic dance, as well.

Modern Dance is excellent for children because it encourages them to think outside the box, to be creative, to be expressive, to be physically aware, and to move freely.

Kids Bop is what we call a fun, energetic, and basic hip hop for kids!

Creative Movement is all about they joy of movement: in its creativity, freedom, and power to express! A pre-cursor to Modern Dance, Creative Movement is more about innovation and individuality, and less about traditionalism and rules. Think: moving through space with different kinds of energy and flow, and nurturing your child’s individual creativity!

If your child is attending the in-person daily lessons, please send them in comfortable clothes appropriate for the weather. Think gym clothes (easy to move in).

The children will be dancing, spaced-out on a parking lot. We recommend sneakers for this reason.

If your child is prone to falling, you may want to have them wear protective equipment.

Yes, we have restrooms available. Anyone entering the building must wear a face-covering/mask. Restrooms will be disinfected after each usage.

Parents will be asked to remain in their cars if they will be waiting for children. (See below.)

Staff and teachers will wear masks/face-coverings.

Children will be spaced with at least 6′ between.

In-person activities will occur outdoors. In the case of inclement weather or a COVID-19 spike keeping us from in-person activities, the lessons will take place online on Zoom. Each in-person registrant will receive $5 back per day that has to revert to Zoom.

In the case of inclement weather, the lessons will take place online on Zoom. Zoom works on phones or computers. You will have to download the app before class begins.

Each in-person registrant will receive $5 back for each class that has to be moved to Zoom.
